"Chocolate is..."

My five year old grandson said to me recently:

"Chocolate is my favorite color!"

Mmmm...mine, too!

If at first you don't succeed...

I saw this on Facebook and agreed whole-heartedly!  This advice can apply to children of all ages, including "know-it-all" teenagers and young adult children.  lol!

"Socialization" in the Public Schools - What is actually learned...

I read a statement written by a fellow homeschooling mom which she had recently posted on her blog.  I think it sums up the type of "socialization" that actually takes place in the public schools.  I hope she doesn't mind that I quote her here on my own blog.  Check out her blog for more enlightening tidbits.

"In public school I learned that being yourself could possibly be detrimental to your popularity.  I  learned that you had to be like everyone else in order to be liked by everyone else.  I learned how to be fake.  Why would I want my kids to learn that?"  - Jessica http://moldingmindshomeschool.blogspot.com

Who has the greater influence over YOUR children?

Who has the greater influence over YOUR children?  Is it the state (what is being taught in the government controlled public schools) or YOU (the parents, via homeschooling or private tutoring/private schooling where the parents either choose the curriculum or have viewed and approved it ahead of time)?

Think about that for a moment.  Now, answer this question...WHO do you WANT to be the primary influence over your children?  Oh, yeah?  Then WHAT are YOU going to do about it?

(Note:  When I quote statements that I agree with, it does not necessarily mean that I agree with other viewpoints of that particular person. So, please don't assume that I have endorsed Ron Paul or any other person for political office unless I so indicate.)

The kids aren't the only ones who are learning...

Such a true statement!   I graduated from a public high school on the Honors List.  I was one of a small group of students that had graduated with a G.P.A of  "A" (having an average grade score for the 4 year period as anywhere between 95 and 100%).

I felt like I had accomplished quite a feat.  I had no idea of  just how little academic knowledge I had actually acquired - until I began homeschooling my children.  I quickly realized that there was so much I had not learned while attending public school, and so, I took this opportunity to learn right alongside my kids.

Homeschooling has given ME (the parent/teacher) the opportunity to learn many new things.  My kids are all grown now, but my own education will continue as I help my daughter homeschool her children.

To Change Our Society...

"We're fools if we think that we're going to change our society if 90% of our children are being educated by the very system that's the problem."  - Gary DeMar.
